A meeting between Israeli politicians and the family members of hostages held by Hamas descended into shouting on Monday.

Hen Avigdori, whose wife and daughter were amongst those kidnapped, pleaded with Knesset members to “stop talking about killing Arabs and start talking about saving Jews”, which prompted an outburst from right-wing politician Almog Cohen.

Israeli lawmakers have been contemplating the death penalty for 7 October attackers, but some relatives of those taken hostage say talk of punishment could have repercussions for their loved ones.
